Verizon retailers are gearing up for the launch of the special edition R2-D2 Droid 2 on September 30th. Some stores are even said to be having Star Wars themed costume parties! Although not officially on sale until the 30th, select stores have the go-ahead to open late on the 29th to bring in expected crowds and create some hype.
If you recall, a few months back we found out that roughly 50,000 models of the R2-D2 Droid 2 were made. I would expect these devices to disappear rather quickly (we know the Star Wars crowd loves anything collectible).
On the collectible note, its rumored that you can buy the phone AND activate it and not even break the seal. For the die-hards, that’s great. You can pack the phone away for decades and maybe it will still be worth something!
For those of you looking to capitalize on the collectible rush by selling on eBay and Craig’s List, Verizon is limiting 2 phones per customer. Good luck.
Do you have any plans to pick up the R2-D2 Droid 2? If so, what are you planning to ensure you’re one of the 50,000?
