Last week we reported that Verizon was not only making Bing the default search engine on the new Samsung Fascinate, but every other Android phone to come out on Verizon. The Android community was outraged, at which point, I suggested you root. More details of the Verizon-Bing deal surfaced, and it turned out that there was no deal and only certain phones would have Bing.
With so much reaction from Verizon customers, Verizon responded, and will now allow Google Search to be added from the Market when the Samsung Fascinate is updated to Android 2.2. Even though this is great news, you still cannot change the default search engine to Google. You can, however, set your browser’s home page to google, or download Voice Search and it will direct you to Google. Of course, the real, true solution is to root.
