LG just announced a new handset in their Optimus line, the Optimus T.
The Optimus T will not be a powerhouse of a device, but will be better suited for those upgrading from a feature phone to a smart phone. It appears that the new demographic for manufacturers are those upgrading from feature phones, LG is certainly aware and plans to take full advantage.
The Optimus T comes with a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen, 3.2MP camera (no flash), GPS, WiFi (mobile hotspot option) and Bluetooth. It is shipped with a 2GB microSD card but boasts support for up to 32GB of removable memory.
The handset is running Android 2.2, so despite not being a power-user device, it should still provide a great user experience. The Optimus T will also ship with standard apps like Maps, Gmail and the rest of the bunch. Swype will also be pre-installed for those who need to text more and faster.
The Optimus (and LG Ally) comes with a customized user interfaces, but its one of the lightest customizations available. The LG Ally allows you to change from the LG home to the standard Android home launcher, it’s expected that the Optimus T will do the same.
The UI comes with 7 home screens and will provide plenty of real estate to throw applications and widgets on. LG has also customized the application drawer and gives you the ability to break applications into groups and re-arrange them almost any way you’d like. Even more, you can uninstall apps right from the tray.
According to the press release, the hone will be available with a Burgundy or Titanium finish and should be available just in time for the Holiday season.
