Android is becoming a more frequent choice in the enterprise market, but is still dwarfed by Apple’s iOS devices. Android had less than 30 percent of all enterprise activations, according to a metrics report by Good Technology. Apple’s iOS had over 50 percent.
Perhaps the Motorola DROID Pro will improve Android’s numbers in the enterprise world. Motorola’s newest announced DROID is optimized for business use, with the ability to roam in over 220 countries. The smartphone has a Virtual Private Network (VPN) app pre-installed. AuthenTec IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) multi-headed VPN integration is an app included with every DROID Pro. And supposedly the app is very easy to configure.
Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) does have some VPN support, but the Cisco IPsec VPN is not supported. AuthenTec provides biometric sensors, and their app should ensure the Cisco IPsec standard runs smoothly. In addition, AuthenTec’s VPN integration supports Tunnel mode IPSec, two-way certication, IKEv1, IKEv2 (Internet Key Exchange protocols), and Split Tunneling. This should support the range of Virtual Private Networks including high-end enterprise devices.
Perhaps with the addition of the DROID Pro to the world of Android, we’ll start seeing more Android activations in Good Technology’s next quarterly report. However, there was one piece of good news for the Green Team: The Motorola DROID X was the most frequently activated device in September among Good’s enterprise clients.
