At CTIA, Sprint announced three new devices, all boasting Sprint ID. At the top of the list is certainly the Samsung Transform.
The Transform boasts a decently large 3.5″ HVGA display attached to a horizontal slider form factor. The device looks very much like the Epic 4G but with a slightly squared off look. The only “inconvenience” about the device is the micro USB port located on the top of the phone. The plastics are certainly not the high quality luxury-style plastic but isn’t cheap, it will surely hold up to wear and tear. The keyboard isn’t terrible either; the buttons are well spaces and the arrow keys offer a mild consolation for the lack of a touchpad.
Sprint ID is essentially stock Android 2.1 with the ability to switch between profiles, some are custom, other are corporate-sponsored and you can even create your own. You can customize each ID as much as you would like. Ultimately, Sprint ID is a system for switching between up to 5 different homescreen profiles on top of Android 2.1. Sprint says that Android 2.2 is coming and they don’t expect it to take long to update the service for new versions of Android.
The is powered by an 800MHz processor so it’s definitely not the fastest phone available but comes off as a pretty decent, well-rounded device. Samsung does it again!
