Want To Design Your Own Android Phone?

Wouldn’t it be great if you could buy an Android phone and you could customize it to your own liking? What if you could have bought the G2 but added a front facing camera? Decide whether you could have mobile TV or not.  Synapses a small startup company in Germany had this very idea and is now experimenting with the thought. It sort of reminds me of how you can go to Dell’s website and build a computer. Much like Dell’s build a computer option you’re given a set of pre-installed hardware that you must have and then you can tailor the computer to your own personal liking. That in a sense is exactly what Synapses is trying to do as I said you will be given a bare device with software and hardware you must have and they are as follows:

  • Android 2.2 (Froyo)
  • 1GHz processor
  • 4 inch Super AMOLED screen
  • micro SD card slot, expandable to 32GB

So after that you can choose to have 3G or 4G, Bluetooth, and physical or capacitive buttons. For people who like to connect their phones to their TV you could opt to have Mini-HDMI installed. You Skype and Fringe junkies could even add a front facing camera. Photographers can add cameras with up to 12MP and whether or not you want flash. Other options include adding mobile TV; choosing your phone body’s color, working memory, and built-in memory.

Sound great right, I personally hope this idea comes to the US. Want to know how much it cost well, with only the defaults you’ll be looking at around $410. I wonder myself though, how much it would cost after everything is all customized. All this goodness and here’s the bad news (come on there is always bad news). The start-up as of now is experiencing server issues and doesn’t load 100% of the time. I still hope to see this idea take shape and it would be nice if more manufactures explored this idea.
