Advent Vega details
We told you yesterday about the cut price but nevertheless snazzy Advent Vega Android tablet on offer through Dixons and Currys in the UK. Well now we have some details to add. On top of the 10 inch screen, we now know that inside the Vega lurks a 1GHz Tegra processor and 512MB of RAM – and the screen itself contains a 1024 by 600 pixel array of multi-touch delight. Gaze again on what this reporter thinks is the nicest budget tablet yet. At 250 quid (430 bucks) are you gonna argue?
Galaxy K?
No its not a misprint – its a Korea only version of the Samsung Galaxy S that we have all fallen so deeply in love with (well I have). Physically very similar to the S, despite a slightly smaller screen, the K comes with T-DMB which is a mobile TV protocol that is peculiar to South Korea and features the Olleh market, which too is a Korean peculiarity. Sadly it doesn’t include the pretty girl in the picture, or I’d be emigrating.
Google or Government
A lot of sites have been reporting Google as having taken a particular interest in Android in India. Now, despite the fact that they have been making an input into local handset makers on the sub-continent, this is something they do everywhere. The real reason that Android in India is exploding is the marvelous move by the Department of Education who subsidized the so-called “$35 dollar tablet” for the country’s 800,000 under graduate students. This had the additional effect of boosting competition for web enabled devices there and with 670,000,000 mobile users there developers across the globe should take note.
T-Mo Desire HD for UK users
Here’s an idea… Rather than carriers offer us handsets for free with, say, with two year £40 ($70) contract, why not offer us two year’s free calls, texts and data but charge us £960 ($1,680) for the handset. It all works out the same. And T-Mobile UK are offering the smashing HTC Desire HD at that price. Everyone I know picked up a SIM free HD from eXpansys or other online retailers weeks ago but if you haven’t yet, then pop along to your local T-Mo shop. Its a great phone, however you pay for it.
Tough? Yeah – Handsome too? Why not?
I can’t really see the point in making a phone quite as tough as the Motorola Defy – I try quite hard to not damage my phone, but if you are the reckless type, the Motorola Defy may be the phone for you. And even if you are not, the 3.7 inch screen, 2GB of storage and rather dashing looks may appeal none-the-less. In Germany the macho beast became available via ThePhoneHouse just hours ago. I guess if you’re into paint balling and texting at the same time, then its the handset for you.
World Vacation
Our international reporter will be on a break for the next week but will be back on the 25th and with an Android camera postcard special.
