Yahoo! Messenger with video calling coming to Android

Good news out of the Yahoo! camp for those who use their popular Messenger service. The IM client will soon be arriving on Android but not without making a big splash. The world of video calling/chat has been getting some attention lately as a lot of new devices come equipped with front-facing cameras. Y! Messenger will be offering a video calling service of its own.

The announcement coming from Yahoo’s VP of Mobile, David Katz, stated that video chat feature will support video between mobile devices and desktop, something other services do not offer.

A huge factor in the Messenger’s video chat success is the support for calls over 3G rather then 4G and Wi-Fi only. 3G use will allow many more users to utilize the service while 4G availability is still limited.

The world of mobile video chat is only starting to heat up. Expect services like Skype and Fring to move to counter the features that Yahoo! is bringing to the party. It’s going to get much more interesting and in all cases, the users win!
