Ford Fiesta Owners Get Voice Control for Android Devices

If you’re the owner of a 2011 Ford Fiesta, then you just got an early Christmas present. Ford just announced that AppLink for Ford SYNC now supports Android as well as BlackBerry devices, and that people who purchase a 2011 Ford Fiesta will be the first to be able to use AppLink with additional models adding support soon.

AppLink works with Ford SYNC to allow users to access apps on their mobile devices using voice commands. With Ford SYNC and AppLink, a driver could press a button in the car and say something like, “Launch Pandora.” Then, once in the supported app, the user could then give additional instructions like, “Play stoner rock station” or “add song to playlist.”

AppLink is available for free by logging in at Syncmyride and going to the Update and Customize section. If this is your first time updating, you may have to install prior updates before getting the AppLink feature.

Apps that support SYNC are Pandora (available now) and Stitcher (available 2011).
