Sprint has made no official announcements about the forthcoming HTC EVO Shift 4G. Pictures and specs have however been available for the past month on the new device. It appears that the new phone will retail for $150 on a new 2 year contract. It should be announced at CES and be available as soon as January 9th as it already appears in Sprint’s inventory logs.
The phone is essentially Sprint’s version of T-Mobile’s G2. It’s equipped with a QWERTY slider keyboard that forgoes that Z hinge that many complained about on the G2, and the 800 MHz 2nd generation Snapdragon processor. Along with that comes a 5 megapixel camera and 4G WiMAX capabilities. Unlike the G2, however, it appears this version will have HTC Sense and not come with the stock Android experience.
It appears to be a worthy device, but at this stage those specs are definitely not at the high end with dual core devices around the corner. The $150 price tag could win over the midrange customers more interested in 4G speeds. More info will surely be given at CES so check back for updates.
