Sure, the release of the Nexus S was pretty big news, but LG has a device that’s going to make the Nexus S (and most other smartphones currently available) look like yesterday’s toys.
The Optimus 2X is LG’s new ¼ber-phone, and it’s slated for a European release in January of 2011. In case you hadn’t heard, here’s what’s making phone fans drool with anticipation for this device.
The Optimus 2X will be the first phone to house NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chip — a dual-core processor that offers web browsing speeds up to 2X faster than current processors in addition to overall better performance. Additionally, Tegra 2 utilizes NVIDIA’s GeForce GPU, which allows for faster gaming and better overall graphic performance with lower power consumption for improved battery life.
If that weren’t enough, the Optimus 2X is the first phone to offer full 1080p HD for video conferencing and playback. Additional specs include 8 GB of internal storage with a Micro SD for expansion, 4-inch display, front/rear cameras and Android 2.2 (Froyo).
The phone’s a screamer to be sure, and while final pricing is unknown, the device is available for pre-order for a mere $730.
To top it off LG says that they are working with composer Ennino Morricone to develop exclusive ringtones just for the Optimus 2X.
Although there is no official word on a US release, sources say that March 2011 on T-Mobile is a pretty good bet.
