Samsung Readies Android Media Player for CES Launch

For a while now, the Apple iPod Touch has been the reigning king when it comes to touch-based media players. Samsung is ready to give Apple some heavy competition with a new media player that will likely make its official debut at CES next week.

The Galaxy Player YP-GB1 takes the form factor of a Galaxy S phone, but replaces the Super AMOLED screen with a 4-inch WVGA Super LCD screen. While not as bright and colorful as Super AMOLED, it is said to be very clear and crisp. Internally, the Galaxy Player will have a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor driving Android 2.2 and a Micro SD card slot. Additionally, the Galaxy Player sports both front and rear cameras for taking pictures and, presumably, video calling. Currently, there is no cellular connectivity, but WiFi will be available.
