Intel CEO Paul Otellini spoke at a conference hosted by Barclays Capital about smartphones being made with Intel chips. In his speech he stated,
“You will see smartphones from premier-branded vendors in the marketplace in the second half of 2011 with Intel silicon inside them.”
Some more exciting news is that the company has won contracts for 35 tablet-style devices. Intel has not yet made its appearance in the smartphone market because of the ARM-based processor from Texas-Instrument, Qualcomm, Samsung, and others. This processor is what the majority of the devices being sold today have been utilizing. It seems that its popularity could begin to recede in the future.
