ARM Holdings were in talks with Google last year in anticipation of bringing Google TV support to ARM chip-sets, and that should become reality this year. Google TV was first designed to operate on Intel’s X86 chips, but a fully compatible (less expensive) ARM version is on its way. Word comes right from the President of ARM, Tudor Brown that their recent processors are cheaper and require less power than Intel’s Atom processor.

This is great news for Google TV, smartphones, and us! Devices using an ARM Dual-Core Cortex-A9 based CPU should have enough energy force to run Google TV. We should expect to see Google TV on most smartphones in the near future. The LG Optimus 2X, which is powered by Tegra-2 has been observed supporting full 1080p output. With that in mind, the next generation of mobile computers should have no problems running Google TV.
At CES 2011 Google was rumored to be showing off their latest version of Google TV, but in a report by the New York Times, Google asked their partners to withhold the product launches, so Google could improve the software.
I’m certain that Google would want Google TV to run well enough to be an enjoyable experience, which certainly must be the case in order to succeed. Whatever tweaks Google is working on, they must ensure mobile devices running Google TV are equipped to deliver a sleek performance. Motorola Atrix 4G has proven powerful enough to run a laptop, desktop, and TV, which exhibits that a single mobile device has enough brawn to do it all.
We really see Google moving quickly in a new direction with Android, Google TV and Chrome OS merging possibly by the end of this year. The meaning of ‘with Google’ will soon include Google TV already installed on your high caliber smartphone.
