Back in December, we reported that NEC was going to debut a dual-screen Android tablet dubbed the Cloud Communicator at CES. Details were sketchy back then with the big question being, how the two screens would be implemented.
As promised, NEC did pull out their two-screen wonder, the LTW, and it looks interesting to say the least.
As you can see from the photo, the tablet functions like a book, which means that portability shouldn’t be a problem. What might be a problem is the fact that the two 800×600 screens are resistive touch rather than capacitive, meaning that you have to apply pressure in order to interact with objects on the screen, and the tablet comes with a stylus to aid in navigation. Additionally, the device is said to be running Android 2.1, which is a fine OS, but with all of the Honeycomb tablets that dropped recently, it (combined with the stylus) really seems like a step back. Still, if the price is right, it might be a good option for students who need a versatile device that they can use throughout their day in multiple situations.
The LTW has WiFi, Bluetooth and optional 3G as connectivity options and is still a prototype, which means that the specs may change once it gets pushed out to retailers. No word yet on an official release date or price point.
