When the Samsung Nexus S was announced back in December, there was no word as to whether AT&T was getting it or even if any other U.S. carrier was going to get it. A few days ago, Samsung filed “GT-i9020A” with the FCC with AT&T bands. The Nexus S, Google’s successor to the Nexus One, is only available at Best Buy and no surprise if the AT&T variant can only be bought there as well.
Although this might be exciting news to those who have been using the T-Mobile Nexus S on AT&T’s 2G network, it might not be able to top what is being brought to the table. With the announcements made at CES 2011 and those being made as we speak at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the Nexus S is looking at some tough competition. With the likes of the Motorola Atrix 4G, which has access to AT&T’s HSPDA+ network, the Nexus seems outdated. But, one great thing going for the Nexus S is the fact that those devices, including the Nexus One, will receive any future Android version before all others.
The FCC filing shows a diagram of the phone that when put side-by-side is identical in size and shape to the T-Mobile Nexus S, known as “GT-i9020”, . So are we looking at an AT&T Nexus S or a mystery phone? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
