The Motorola Xoom, which was released Thursday, also got rooted on Thursday by none other than Koush! The brilliant Android developer worked his way into getting full root access on the new tablet. As he explains since this is a “Google experience” device and Motorola was kind enough to ship it with fastboot support, it was (as he states it) “rooted out of the box. Just needed to figure out the board kernel base, and compile up a new kernel.”
Full steps to do the process are over on his own personal blog. I wanted to link over to the blog rather than post the instructions here, in case there is an update to the process. Obviously rooting your device (especially a day 1 device) can be risky, so be careful! But we’ll see what all kinds of cool stuff the various Android developers out there can do with a rooted Xoom.
