ASUS Transformer Running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, Demoed at CeBIT

ASUS just announced at CeBIT that their many of their upcoming tablets, not just their ASUS Transformer, will be running Android OS 3.0 (Honeycomb).  The announcement was made at the CeBIT 2011 trade show in Hanover, Germany.  Unfortunately, they were not able to demonstrate many tablets running Honeycomb because they use a Qualcomm chipset and there is not yet a Honeycomb port for Qualcomm.

A Keyboard Dock for a Honeycomb Tab: ASUS Transformer

One interesting contender is their Transformer, a tablet that has a keyboard dock that allows it to act like a laptop. The Transformer is on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset, like the already launched Motorola Xoom, so they managed to get Honeycomb ported to it in time for the show.

Engadget got some hands-on time, and it looks pretty smooth. It is also pretty sexy, which, as we all know, is very important to the discerning gadget geek. It does not appear to be a final build, but a prototype. There is no Android Market on it (yet).

It appears to have 16 GB storage, but other specs are unknown. Frankly, if the specs are close to the Xoom, I would probably prefer the Transformer. At the very least, ASUS is known for bringing inexpensive options to market.
