If you thought that Sprint’s paltry showings at the recent trade shows (CES and MWC) were evidence that they were falling behind, think again. Apparently, Sprint is going to be doing a big showing at CTIA, the next big trade show. CTIA starts in about two weeks and, for CTIA, Sprint has reserved a two-and-a-half hour press event. That would be a really long time to talk about past accomplishments without introducing something fresh.
Engadget got a tip from an anonymous source that there will be three big unveilings by Sprint in this time. First is a Nexus S 4G. When Google released the Nexus One, Sprint was slated to get a version of it, but they opted for the EVO 4G instead. Maybe this time, they are actually going to get the great stock-Android Google-experience phone. With 4G.
The next item on the list is a successor to the EVO 4G, which some believe will be called the EVO 3D. Naturally, it is assumed that this phone has some sort of 3D experience. Will you be able to watch 3D videos? Take 3D photos? We don’t know yet, but will keep you informed. 3D in smartphones was started by Sharp (who has not recently made smartphones for the US market), and the flag was taken up by LG with the Optimus 3D and LG G-slate. Sprint never said that the EVO brand would only be HTC phones, so it does not seem impossible that LG makes the EVO 3D. However, HTC might be getting in the 3D game (or any other manufacturer could as well for that matter).
Finally, is a potential announcement for an HTC View tablet. This is thought to be something along the lines of the HTC Flyer that we saw announced recently.
Whatever the news announcements, you know we will have them covered.
