As a Brit, mail in rebates for mobile phones has always seemed like a funny thing. Is the rebate supposed to entice customers when just discounting straight away is much easier? I no that the fact people just forget to claim their rebate is a factor for carriers but doesn’t it seem obvious that more people are going to consider (and ultimately) buying a phone if it is cheaper and less of a hassle to save money?
It seems following Verizons plans to cut in-store mail in rebates for its high-end phones that Sprint is going to start trialling a similar thing. Starting March 27th Sprint will ditch mail in rebates and change it to instant at the till discounts. Lets hope they sell HTC Evo 3D’s to make them consider keeping this process.
