Google are set to not only take over the way in which we communicate but also the appliances in our home. They demonstrated how this will work by plugging an Android phone in to a bike and seeing how many calories had been burned. It is hoped that the announcement will encourage manufacturers to make accessories so that they can extend the Android OS to just about anything from fridges to lights.
Developers and manufacturers will be able to make the device that is connected download the correct app so that the device, be that a TV or gym equipment has the correct app for that device. For the time being it will be USB only but Google did say that they will offer Bluetooth support too. The new Android Open Accessories platform will be available to Honeycomb 3.1 and Android 2.3.4 devices.
