Right now we are seeing Amazon expanding technologically across the board, and their release of the Amazon Appstore for Android has seem to be quite successful. One of the major reasons the Amazon Appstore has been able to succeed, is the availability to download a free paid app every day. While that is primarily why I even give it a second look, Amazon has now gained exclusive rights of certain games into the Android ecosystem. As pictured above, one of the first games to give the Amazon Appstore debut was Angry Birds Rio. While later Rovio released Angry Birds Rio on to the official Android Market, it was quite surprising Amazon got such a huge player in mobile gaming to hop on board.
Now Amazon has got yet another big mobile game company to give them exclusivity, and that company is PopCap. The first game to debut from PopCap is Chuzzle, and later on Plants vs Zombies is set to be released. The deal with Amazon is only set to last for only two weeks, but that would be enough to sway more people to buy games. Since PopCap is officially on board, this could be the beginning of major mobile game companies to bypass the official Android Market and them to set up shop with Amazon.
So we may see an app store shift in the making, or possibly Amazon having their 15 minutes of fame. While I’m kinda rubbed the wrong way when it comes to drifting away from the official Android Market, maybe this will be a driving force for Google to do something to entice consumers and developers to stay at home.
