NFC is on the way
Bright Side of the News reports that at a recent press event, a HTC sales manager who wishes to remain anonymous, mentioned plans to release a new handset in Q3 that will be “positioned slightly above the recently announced Sensation”. The new secret super phone will have an NFC chip and a 4.3 inch screen. Near Field Communication or NFC is a technology that there has been a lot of buzz about in the smart phone world and I’ve been following it kind of closely since writing an article about the subject earlier this month.
HTC’s secret NFC phone the new Nexus?
So far there is only one Android phone to take the bull by the horns and include the required chip to utilize the new feature (which can be used to make payments much in the same way as a credit card by waving your device over a scanner), and that’s the Samsung Nexus S. Google added the feature in Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the major carriers are each pursuing implementation of NFC payment systems in select markets. That means more NFC phones will have to be manufactured. It seems to be a priority to the carriers to get people to adopt the new technology so we should see a lot more Android phones with NFC chips on board. All indicators are we can expect a few before the years out. All ready the rumor mill is buzzing that this new HTC phone may indeed be the third in the Nexus series which would place it for a release in Q3 or 4 of this year according it’s development cycle, just in time for the NFC enabled phone hinted at by the aforementioned HTC sales manager. What are your thoughts on NFC? Anyone making their buying decisions on whether this technology is on board or not? I’d like to hear from you in the comments.
