Finally An Official Google Offers App
Google has been talking about offers since they introduced the service back in May along with Google Wallet, but until now we have yet to see an official app hit the market. That changes today with the launch of the Google Offers app. The question is can it stand up to the likes of the already established players in the deals/offers field Groupon and Living Social? The idea behind all three services is the same to give you access to special offers for restaurants, shops, and activities in your city or county. So does Google Offers have what it takes to be the #1 spot for local deals…
The app continues with the new design language of Ice Cream Sandwich and other recently updated apps like Reader and Google+ featuring swiping navigation and a menu bar along the top. It’s both intuitive and pleasing to the eye, and it should be no problem finding deals as the service expands. The start screen is the Featured deal of the day and with a swipe to left you are brought to the My Offers page where you can see your purchased offers, saved items, along with your used and soon to expire offers.
Along the menu bar up top you have a camera button which will take you straight to a QR code scanner to scan items and check for better prices elsewhere. Offers uses GPS to locate your location and find deals near you along with the selected cities that you have subscribed to and gives convenient notifications straight to your device of new offers. Overall the app and service seem promising the only limitation at this point is the limited number of cities supported as opposed to say Groupon. However it shouldn’t be long until the service expands and gains a large selection of offers nationwide. So download the app from the market and start saving today.
