Archos has had a bit of bad luck with their these 2 tablets, because the TI OMAP 4460 processor wasn’t ready, or at least not at 1.5 Ghz per core. These 2 tablets were supposed to launch sometime in fall last year, but it seems that launch was delayed by a few months. But better late than never, right?
The 2 tablets come with the following specs:
- 1024×768 8″ or 1280×800 10.1″ display
- OMAP 4460 dual-core processor at 1.5GHz
- 8GB flash memory or 250GB HDD (plus a microSD slot)
- 1GB RAM
- 720p front-facing camera
- 1080p video playback
- MicroUSB and Mini HDMI ports
The novelty for these devices would be the 250 GB of HDD storage. That’s the biggest we’ve ever seen in a tablet. It’s still an unknown how much noise it will make or if it will overheat because of the HDD, though. Plus, make sure you won’t drop it, because that HDD might not last such an impact. My opinion is that it’s better to just stick with flash storage for these mobile devices.
Fortunately, it does come with Android 4.0 right out of the box, and the pricing is pretty low, too, at $269 and $329 respectively. Archos will still have to hurry up and sell as many of these as possible soon, because competitors will have even better tablets for the same price.
