Featured: Is This the Galaxy S3, Finally?

We’ve already seen a bunch of mock Galaxy S3 renders over the past week, and this one is just the latest one, that also promises to be the real one, and taken by a Samsung employee. Can it be the real one this one? Anything is possible, but let’s take a look at what this one promises.

First of all, it’s obvious it’s running stock Android 4.0. So that by itself is a little unbelievable. What is going on here? Is Samsung really going stock Android with their flagship Galaxy device? Is it really happening? It would be great if it did, and it would give stock Android a huge boost in the market, not just through the millions of units that it will sell itself, but by convincing other manufacturers to do the same. That would be the really big change.

But why would Samsung give up on Touchwiz? Maybe they just want to be the first ones to do it. After all, they’ve already built the Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0, and maybe they decided that this is a pretty good way to go, by leaving Google handling all the software (well mostly), and not bothering to come up with new skins every time. But even so, it’s still pretty unbelievable, and it’s one of those things that you really have to wait and see it happen, before you even seriously consider it.

Another thing we notice is that it seems to have a 16:10 ratio, like the Galaxy Note, not a 16:9 one like the Galaxy Nexus. That means it would have a 1280×800 resolution, and not a 1280×720 one. I’m not really sure what to think of this yet, until I would actually use such a form factor. On one hand, it’s wider, and it allows you to do more stuff better in vertical mode, and on the other, you won’t benefit from the 16:9 ratio for videos, but I suppose that’s not a huge issue.

Other than that, it seems to have onscreen buttons, not physical ones, which would definitely be a plus. But once again, this whole render could be completely fake. It’s really no way of knowing until we see the official announcement.
