Featured: HTC One X to Launch on AT&T on May 6th. How Will It Compare with Galaxy S3?

HTC’s most competitive smartphone yet, the One X will finally arrive on AT&T on May 6th in 2 weeks, and will sell for $199, which is a very good price for this phone, especially since it comes with LTE. The timing is interesting because on May 3rd Samsung should unveil the Galaxy S3 as well.

The HTC One X is still the best smartphone money can buy right now, and will continue to remain one of the best, even after the launch of Galaxy S3. Plus, other than a much better design and a much better camera, there probably is little the Galaxy S3 will offer compared to the One X. It should have the same 1280×720 resolution, but it will have a Super AMOLED Plus display. That could mean a good thing or a bad thing. The display will definitely be great, but it’s possible it will still have less color accuracy than the One X. Although it should still have other advantages like much higher contrast.

Another difference would be that the Galaxy S3 is most likely to have a quad core Cortex A9 chip, while the One X will have a dual core 1.5 Ghz S4 chip. Unless the clock frequency is at least 1.7 Ghz for the Galaxy S3, I’ll be inclined to believe the One X will be the top performer. However, there’s also a slight possibly that the Galaxy S3 will have a dual core Cortex A15 chip at 1.7-1.8 Ghz, which should be significantly better than the S4 chip not only in CPU performance but also in GPU performance.

There’s still the question if you prefer Sense, Touchwiz or plain old ICS-style vanilla Android 4. We have no idea yet how different, if at all, the next version of Touchwiz will be on top of the Galaxy S3, so that’s up in the air. If Samsung unveils their phone fully on May 3rd, then you should be able to make up your mind by May 6th if you’re going to get a HTC One X or a Galaxy S3.
