I’m not entirely sure what is Samsung’s strategy with tablets lately. Their strategy seems confusing and they are releasing tablets for all sizes and there are a lot of them, but some of them even come out with old specs and have high prices. And yet they don’t have an answer to the new iPad right now.
These 2 leaked names for 2 tablets, one of 7″ and the other of 10″, come together with a June release date, but we don’t know anything else about their hardware right now. I’ve been hoping they will release their Exynos 5250 tablet sometime soon, but it looks less and less likely. These 2 tablets will most likely have the same processor that will be in the Galaxy S3, and will probably launch around the same date, too.
The chip I’m talking about is the quad core 1.5 Ghz (probably, could be higher) Exynos 4412 with a GPU that should be 50% faster than the Mali 400 in Galaxy S2, which isn’t really a huge improvement, but it should handle the 720p display well. Unfortunately, this means we won’t see the Exynos 5250 at least until the end of summer, if not in fall (next Nexus device?).
Samsung is still starting to worry me with their recent trend of releasing a lot of devices. I don’t want their branding for their best devices to be lost in a sea of mediocre devices that share the Galaxy name. HTC kind of figured this out this year, and it has helped them regain the public’s attention with the One branding, but it might not lost too long for them either if they aren’t careful. Samsung should also focus more with their devices before their revenues start going down.
