Samsung is a big leader in the Android smartphone market, but just how big?According to recent sales statistics, Samsung accounted for 40% off all Android smartphone sales while no other company went over 10%. This is a pretty big difference and goes to show just how well the South Korean company is doing in the smartphone department.
Some other interesting stats: Out of 86.6 Million handsets sold by them in Q1, 43.9 percent were smartphones and smartphone sales in general rose 25.9% percent from last year to 38 Million units. One concern all of this brings up is that one manufacturer happens to be responsible for a large percentage of Android sales.
Say something was to happen with a manufacturer which, with Apple pursing Samsung with one patent lawsuit after another after another, could spell trouble for Android’s market share and allow iOS to become number one.
Another thing with the company is that instead of putting stock Android on their phones, they put on their very own UI, TouchWiz, which is built on top of Android. Essentially, Samsung controls the user experience instead of Google. The success of the iPhone and iPad has been the streamlined user experience across all the different versions. If someone was to potentially have a bad experience with TouchWiz, that could turn them off to Android despite that not being the true Android 4.0 experience.
With all of that said, people seem to really be enjoying Samsung’s smartphones and as long as they can keep Apple off their back and not do anything stupid, Android should continue zooming along at breakneck speed. Also, HTC has a real shot of gaining even more market share with their new One X, One S, and One V smartphones.
