Google announced in a blog post today their acquisition of the native mobile productivity suite QuickOffice. QuickOffice is one of the best mobile office suites with native versions for both Android and iOS. While Google Drive has seen some recent improvements to its mobile app, it is still basically a web app and no go without an internet connection. With Microsoft reportedly releasing native mobile version of Microsoft Office, Google definitely needs to step up their game to compete.

We’re happy to announce that we have acquired Quickoffice, a leader in office productivity solutions.
Today, consumers, businesses and schools use Google Apps to get stuff done from anywhere, with anyone and on any device. Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we’ll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our Apps product suite.
While they do not mention Drive specifically, the plan must be to keep QuickOffice going until the teams and apps can be fully integrated into a much-needed Google Drive overhaul. I use my tablet daily for productivity and look forward to the update and hope it allows for users to finally get some real work accomplished. How do you feel about the acquisition, is Google finally taking productivity seriously?
