Flipboard has been making waves lately since it finally came over to Android. You can’t pick it up in the Play Store quite yet as it is still currently in beta, however, if you head on over to their website, you can sign up to then get a link to the beta which you have to manually install. Not familiar with the app? Basically, Flipboard is an elegant way to catch up on the topics that interest you most.
Think of it as an RSS reader, but packaged together in a much more visually appealing product. You literally “flip” through stories, similar to how you would flip open a notepad. The app has been available on the iPhone for years now and it’s been a long road to make it’s way over to the light side, or the dark side depending on who you talk to.
Today at LeWeb being held in London, Bradley Horowitz, VP product management at Google+, showed off a version of the app with very nice integration with Google+. He was showing it off on an iPad and didn’t mention when it would be out or if they’d open their API up to more developers. The demo showed off the interface that people are familiar with, a page with photos from a particular user, another with just text, and a third page with a combination of text and photos.
Since this version of Flipboard with Google+ integration was shown on an iPad, that definitely hints that it will hit iOS first whenever it does and could be many months after that before Android sees it.
