Featured: Google's Project Glass Revving up for Another Round of Testing

If you thought Project Glass was out of the news for this week, think again. It’s been tipped by the FCC that Google will be expanding its number of testing units of the glasses to 722 units. This number comes reported to us by phonearena. That’s a vast increase from the previous 100 units they were testing before. To the newcomers out there who may or not have been living under rocks, Project Glass are these new augmented reality glasses that Google has been working on that do all sorts of cool fun things. Not only is Google reportedly increasing their amount of testing units, but it seems that they might be trying to get at least one working version to pass through FCC by August or towards the end of the summer. This could mean big things for Google, although hopefully they don’t rush this project and push them out too fast the first round.

Besides this revelation that there will be many more of these Project Glass units floating around out there in the wild, we also heard back in February that Google had filed for some new “personal communication device.”  This is the same device we talked about just a couple of days ago that carries WiFi and Bluetooth but lacks its own personal cellular radio. Now it is very possible that the filing for the testing increase on Glass may not actually be for Glass and could possibly be for this new mystery device we know almost nothing about. Both seem like logical explanations. Project Glass is said to be more than a year away from being in the state of ready for retail, but if Project Glass “does” get more units for testing, than we could very well see some of these at the Google I/O developer conference at the end of this month in San Francisco.

This is all very exciting news and what a complete joy it would be to see these things being worn by more than just a few Google top execs and representatives. I for one wouldn’t shun a pair, I would proudly adorn them on my face. I think they’d make me look like some sort of high-tech scholar. A little more of this information should come to light as we near the end of the month and set foot on the grounds of the conference. Google I/O is less than just a few short weeks away and we here at androidheadlines will be there for the entire event to give you the newest and hottest news on anything exciting coming out of the event. Stay tuned and join us the 27th through the 29th for everything about Google and Android. For all you out there who just can’t wait to get your hands on pair of these coveted new Google glasses, here’s a little photo to get you guys excited about the possibilities to come. Perhaps it’ll even inspire some of you to rig up your own design if you can’t wait for the real thing. Enjoy!
