Featured: Pre-Orders Start For The Nexus 7 Tablet, $199, Ships Mid-July

Today at Google I/O 2012, one of the most buzzed about products and easily one of the most buzzed about Android tablets to come out this year, was the Nexus Tablet, Google’s very own attempt at a tablet with partner Asus. Fortunately, no one was disappointed. While talking a ton about the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the news people were waiting for finally arrived.

The Nexus tablet is available for pre-order right now from the Play Store and the cost, as many blogs had been reporting before, is just $199. Considering what you get for that price, the Amazon Kindle Fire has some pretty serious competition. Users are definitely in for a treat and those who pre-order can expect to get the latest 7 inch tablet next month with it being shipped out mid-July.

Just exactly what are the specs you ask?

  • 7 inch HD display at 1280×800 resolution (216 ppi)
  • Scratch proof and shatter proof Corning Gorilla Glass
  • Quad Core Tegra 3 processor running at over 1GHZ
  • 8 or 16GB of internal storage
  • 1GB RAM
  • 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera
  • NFC and Bluetooth
  • 4,325mAh battery which claims to offer up to 8 hours of active use
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

If you want the 16GB version, that’ll run you $249. Google is definitely making waves with this announcement and it wouldn’t be surprising to see it become the hottest selling Android tablet this year. At the killer price point, which, for the average consumer, is the sweet spot, and combined with great features and hardware, one simply can’t go wrong if they’re in the market for a 7 inch tablet.
