ComScore has just released a new report showing the numbers of first time smartphone buyers has increased during a three-month period ending in April. Almost a 10% increase in new smartphone buyers, with feature phone buyers decreasing by 10%, check out the graphs below for the full break down.
The biggest reason we can see customers picking Android over the other smartphones, is that you can pick an Android phone up for almost nothing now with a new contract. For instance the brand new Motorola Atrix HD on AT&T is for sale at just $99.99 ($49.99 at Best Buy and Amazon) with a new 2-year contract. Another reason is perhaps the innovation we’ve seen in the Android platform over the last couple of years. While the iPhone has remained basically the same. I’d be interested in ComScore releasing this report for the month of September or October, since that’s the expected release of the iPhone, I want to see how many people don’t buy it.
Is your current Android device your first smartphone? What was your first smartphone?
