The Nexus 7 tablet from Google was announced a couple weeks at Google I/O and is set to disrupt the 7 inch tablet market, offering a quad core processor, quality screen, and decent storage, for the small price tag of just $199. When it comes to 7 inch tablets, there is also another one that’s managed to do incredibly well at the same price: Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
Being that Amazon is the World’s largest e-commerce site, it only makes sense for the Nexus 7 to be for sale there. The problem however is that Amazon has been promoting their very own tablet and to possibly start selling the Nexus 7 would potentially undermine their efforts. From a hardware and software perspective, there is absolutely no comparison. At the same price, the Nexus 7 destroys the current generation Kindle Fire.
An Amazon spokesperson said that the higher ups are currently in talks with Google regarding the tablet. On one side, Amazon’s concerns are very understandable. They’re not planning on releasing the Kindle Fire 2 until later this year and in the meantime, the Nexus 7 will be sure to gain market share and take some of that away from them. On the other side, if it wasn’t for Android, a Google product, the Kindle Fire would likely be running some far less enjoyable software.
Either way, we’ll eventually find out the verdict and even if Amazon decides not to stock Google’s tablet, people can always pick it up in the Play Store.
