Despite Apple and Samsung being all over the web on their various issues and patent disputes, Samsung isn’t the only manufacturer of Android devices that is is being affected by the same topic. Microsoft originally went after Motorola Mobility claiming they were infringing their patent for FAT, a storage file system architecture.
As it turns out, the Mannheim Regional Court has sided with Microsoft and will ban the sale of Motorola Mobility’s smartphones which most notably include their RAZR line. Of course in order for the ban to go into effect, Microsoft will have to pay a $12.3 Million bond, but that’s a drop in the bucket for an organization with a market cap of almost $250 Billion.
It’s reported that over 70 percent of Android phones use patented Microsoft technology which could spell further headaches for other manufactures and not just affect them in various countries, but Worldwide. In the meantime, Motorola will need to find another internal storage method if they want to get things back on track.
Banning the sale of all phones in one country isn’t too bad, but it’s still not something a company wants to have happen. It not only causes them to lose a potentially large amount of money, but it’s not good in the public eye either. Knowing Motorola Mobility, they’ll likely be on a fix pretty fast.
