Featured: Sony Confirms No Jelly Bean for its' 2011 Phones

We haven’t heard from many manufacturers about their plans to update their devices to Android 4.1 – Jellybean. But we do know that ASUS is planning on updating their Tegra 3 devices and HTC will update their One lineup. Sony announced on its’ UK Facebook page that 2011 devices won’t be seeing any official Jelly Beans.

More specifically, Sony is saying that no official OTA to Android 4.1 for the Xperia Arc S and the Mini Pro. There was no word on other devices the company released last year, but it’s probably safe to say none of them will get Jelly Bean since their specs aren’t better than the Xperia Arc S and the Mini Pro.

As far as recently released Sony devices, they have “nothing to announce”. I’d be willing to bet that the Xperia S (as well as the Xperia P and Xperia U that was shown off at Mobile World Congress this year) would get the update to Jelly Bean, but nothing’s official yet. Owner’s could be waiting for an update that may never arrive.

Seeing news like this just breaks my heart, and adds to the many reasons why I have jumped on the Nexus bandwagon. You spend all that money on a new device, and for it not to get updates after 6 months to a year is just wrong. Manufacturers need to step up and actually support their devices.
