Summary: MediaTek has just announced the Dimensity 9400 Plus. This is its newest flagship chipset, which we expect to see debuting in a few devices later today. It’s essentially an overclocked Dimensity 9400.

MediaTek today announced its latest flagship chipset – the Dimensity 9400 Plus. Now as you can tell from the naming here, this is a very slight upgrade over the Dimensity 9400 that was unveiled last year. Essentially, this is an overclocked version of the Dimensity 9400, similar to what Qualcomm has done in the past with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The Dimensity 9400 Plus

MediaTek says that they expect to see devices with the Dimensity 9400 Plus start shipping in Q2, which essentially means anytime between now and the end of June. However, we are expecting a few Dimensity 9400 Plus devices to come from OPPO and vivo as soon as today.

The Dimensity 9400 Plus does still run on an All Big Core design, which integrates an ARM Cortex-X925 core that operates at up to 3.73GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The company says that this “powerful configuration accelerates single and multithreaded performance for top-tier Android UX experiences.”

Dimensity 9400 Plus is built on TSMC’s N3E enm process

Dimensity 9400 Plus is built on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, N3E, and it is up to 40% more power-efficient than its predecessor, the Dimensity 9400. Obviously, this is going to help extend battery life even more. The Dimensity 9400 was already incredibly efficient in our testing, so we’re excited to see the differences with the Dimensity 9400 Plus.

MediaTek has equipped the Dimsneity 9400 Plus with their own NPU 890, which means it is able to support DeekSeek R1 on-device. That makes the Dimensity 9400 Plus the first in the industry to support DeekSeek R1’s four key technologies. That’s Mixture-of-Experts (MoE), Multi-Head Latent Attention (MLA), Multi-Token Prediction (MTP), and FP8, which is going to provide much faster reasoning speeds.

On the graphics side, MediaTek is utilizing a 12-core ARM Immortalis-G925 GPU. This is going to enhance gaming visual experiences by bringing PC-level features to smartphones with opacity micropap (OMM) support for realistic effects. This GPU also sustains peak gameplay speeds, which will allow gamers to play longer without any lag.

Finally, MediaTek UltraSave 4.0 is also here, which will bring about 18% 5G power savings with traffic identity. That should make a meaningful difference for those who are on the go all the time.

As mentioned already, the first smartphones running the Dimensity 9400 Plus are expected to be available in Q2 2025.
