Sony has yet to really make a dent in the US market, but internationally it’s very popular. Its’ Xperia line has been widely popular. From the Xperia P, S, and U we saw at Mobile World Congress earlier this year to some of the lower end phones like the Xperia Miro and Xperia Tipo. But the Sony device we’ve been waiting for is the Xperia GX, which is currently exclusive to Japan. Some leaked images of a new Sony device appeared on the Xperia Blog, it’s codenamed LT29i Hayabusa, and it looks to be the international variant of the Xperia GX which is supposed to be hitting western markets in the third quarter of this year.
The Japanese Xperia GX has a beautiful 4.6-inch 720p display, running Android 4.0.4, powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, and has a 13mp rear camera for snapping some crisp pictures.
Keep in mind that this is just a leak and thing could change before the announcement comes. We’re hoping that Sony announces this LT29i at IFA next month in Germany. The device has already shown up at the FCC sporting a nice pentaband HSPA+ radio. So unless they’ve changed the radio, it won’t be heading to Sprint or Verizon. But hopefully we do see it released on T-Mobile or AT&T soon.
