Featured: Nexus 7 Sales Leads to Question: How Many More?

Once the Nexus 7 was shown at the Google I/O conference we saw just how quickly the 16GB stock of them went, and it went a lot faster than most had anticipated. Now that the 16GB Nexus 7 is back in stock, what will happen now? How are the sales? And will they run out again? These are all questions that many have asked, and wondered.  Let us turn to some help on this matter.

Production Volume

A report given by Digitimes claimed that 4 million touch (OGS) panels were shipped out in Q3 2012. That is a lot of panels! An un-named writer from Tech-Thoughts was kind enough to give out estimates on what the volume of Nexus 7 would be like. The data was based on Q3 2011 Production and Sales. According to Digitimes, TPK Holding and Wintek (suppliers of screen panels), June hit 1 million units, and 1.4 million units in July. Significantly less then what is being reported now. These should then equal the number of actual Nexus 7 units being put into production per month/quarter.

In June Google received 600,000 units, and are now estimating 3 million by the end of the year. What does this mean? Google and Asus have obviously miscalculated their original numbers and have now doubled their estimates for the next quarter.

It takes approximately 2.5 weeks for Google to receive the shipments of Nexus 7 devices, and they have been at about 1-1.5 million units per month. It is also showing that this may be a consistent amount until the end of year. Thus this makes it possible to give a rough estimate of the units needed before the end of the year.

Sales Estimates

Thanks to what has already been produced, and sold an estimate of sales of the 4 million units is possible. Q3 2012 is estimating 3-4 million units, this is also in part on how quickly the 1 million units sold. The 16GB tablets sold out in a week.

There is a lot more mumbo jumbo included in all of this, but this is the estimate volume of the Nexus 7 for the rest of the year, and that is about 3-4 million units. What are your thoughts?
