By now we’ve all heard about Nikon’s new camera that is set to run on Android 2.3 – Gingerbread, which should be launching sometime next month. Now it’s looking like Samsung is bringing its Android software and its’ camera hardware together to form an Android powered point and shoot camera. Reports are calling it the Samsung Galaxy S Camera, and according to GSMArena the device will be based on the Galaxy S3 internal specifications.
According to GSMArena’s source, the Galaxy S Camera is running Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich, with the S3-class 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED display on the back and a 16MP sensor on the front, along with 10X optical zoom and pop-out Xenon flash. It’s rumored that we’ll see Wifi and 3G/HSPA+ versions at IFA in Berlin later this week.
We’ve also heard that the Galaxy S Camera will be about twice as thick as the Galaxy S3, which is still pretty thin for a point and shoot camera. So far we haven’t seen any direct evidence that this will be unveiled at IFA this week, but I guess we’ll see before the end of the week. But this would be a big addition to Samsung’s wifi-connected cameras.
So a Galaxy S3 base WiFi camera from Samsung, is it worth it? Nowadays most people just take pictures with their smartphones. We have such great camera’s on devices like the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3, and the HTC One S, so why carry an extra device? What do you think about a Galaxy S Camera?
