Yep. Apple and Samsung are still battling it out in court which is expected to come to an end here soon. Both companies have been going at it pretty strongly in court, Apple trying to prove that Samsung copied their devices and Samsung trying to show that they didn’t, as well as Apple’s patents are invalid thanks to prior art.
It’s a nasty battle that, unfortunately, likely isn’t going to end with this court case. Apple claims that Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus copied an iPhone feature that had to do with Siri and in an effort to gain market share. Apple’s lawyer Mark Perry says that this was the phone that was set to compete directly with the latest iPhone and they copied to try and get ahead.
The thing is though, Samsung didn’t gain market share from Apple with the Galaxy Nexus. Among our Android community, it seems to be a fairly popular phone, however, it’s not nearly as big as one would think. John Quinn, Samsung’s lawyer, says Apple wasn’t affected by the small amount of sales in relation to how much of the iPhone that was sold. In the third quarter, Apple sold $16.2 Billion worth of the iPhone. Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus? Only $250 Million in sales in the first two quarters of 2012.
Not nearly anything that would cause harm to Apple. At most, it got 0.5% of the market. Yes, less than 1%. Either way, they want the Galaxy Nexus banned for sale in the United States. The actual court case in regards to that is in March of 2014, pretty far away. By then, Samsung will have moved on to the next generation device, unless of course Google works with another manufacturer after this whole mess.
