Unlike a certain competitor, Sony, when it comes to their smartphones and tablets, have been a little bit different with their designs. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed their designs, though they haven’t always done extremely well. Sony announced the Xperia Tablet S at IFA 2012 which they’re promoting as a splash proof tablet.
Splash proof doesn’t mean that it’s water proof per say. If you drop your tablet in the bathtub (why do you have your tablet so close to the bathtub?), it’s likely not going to survive. However, say you accidentally spill something on the screen, you’ll be alright. They didn’t blurt out any specs, but thanks to the rumor mill, we’ve got some specs…
- 9.4 inch HD display at 1280×800 resolution
- NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor
- 8 megapixel rear-facing camera
- 1 megapixel front-facing camera
- 6,000mAh battery with up to 10 hour battery life
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Sony is sure to release details soon and from what we’ve seen, pricing will be very competitive. The 16GB version will cost around $450, 32GB version around $550, and 64GB version will cost around $650. There’s also a nice little commercial to go along with the tablet which is a more creative approach than dubstep music and explosions which you can check out below.
Instead of plastic with previous designs, this tablet will have a metal finish so it should have a better feel to it.
