The original Galaxy Note was a hugely popular and successful device for both Europe and the States well, as long as you were an AT&T customer that is. T-Mobile was rumored to carry the device for so long and when they did, it didn’t last very long as the device is currently listed as “out of stock” on T-Mobile’s website and there’s no signs to show that the device will be back in stock anytime soon – if at all. With this latest rumor however, things don’t look all bad – unless you signed up to two years on the OG Note – as the SGH-T889 should be coming to T-Mobile soon. Of course, this is just a rumor so take it with a pinch of salt, as always.
What’s the SGH-T889 you ask? Well, the original Note on T-Mo’s network was the SGH-T879 and historically Samsung have had only minor bumps in model numbers to indicate a new model. The screenshot below also offers some additional meat to the rumor:
As you can see, the device is running Jelly Bean (4.1.1) which hasn’t yet to reach the Original Note as well as the fact that when the screenshot isn’t scaled it measures 1280×720 the resolution of the Note II versus the original’s 1280×800. Of course, this could all be rumor but the folks over at TMo News have been doing this long enough, right? Besides, there’s probably a number of testers out there, giving the device a go over for the network.
Another interesting part of the rumor is that the Note II will be hitting the network with the Exynos 4 CPU intact which would be a real boon for those looking for extra power as a quad-core at 1.6Ghz really isn’t anything to be messed with. This would certainly make sense as for T-Mobile there’s no LTE to require a Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, something that I’m sure Samsung really isn’t all that happy with. Having said that, I’m sure many of you would put up with T-Mobile’s 42mbps HSPA+ network for quad-core power. I know that I would rather have the quad-core One X than a Snapdragon packing one.
