Featured: Cricket to Sell ZTE Engage from Oct 2nd; 1Ghz CPU and ICS for $250

For a long time now Cricket Wireless has been providing decent low-end devices on it’s pre-paid service for those not looking to spend a lot on their phones. It’s a recipe that seems to be working as well – not everyone needs a massive phone that costs an arm and a leg. This time around Cricket is bringing another ZTE device to market with the ZTE Engage. For $250 you’ll be getting the following:

  • Qualcomm MSM8655T Scorpion – 1.4GHz
  • Dual-Facing Cameras: Rear (8.0MP) w/LED Flash & Front (VGA)
  • MUVE Music Ready with 4GB Muve Music SD Card included
  • Removable MicroSD Memory Card (up to 32GB)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • Lithium Ion 1900 mAh battery

So there you have it, not the best phone by any means but it’s perfectly serviceable and for those that are using a Nexus 7 or any other 7″ tablet as your main device then all you’re going to use a phone for is…making a phone call and text messaging. Which I’m perfectly sure this phone will handle very well. What’s pretty funny about this is that this latest from ZTE and Cricket actually has a larger battery than my quad-core One X so, HTC are you paying attention? If ZTE can do it, so can you. Whilst the included storage isn’t much you can take it right up to 32GB – something you don’t get the option on some of the high-end devices right now. This is a solid offering and whilst the Galaxy Nexus is only $100 more from the Play Store you can be pretty sure you’ll be paying for your service than you would be on Cricket.
