The Padfone was one of the only devices of it’s kind that combined both a tablet and a smartphone into one. Made by ASUS, you could just buy the phone which is all find and dandy, but you could also get the tablet to go along with it. Thing is, the tablet had no processor, RAM, and so on. It was powered by the phone. Launching earlier this year, it did alright, but didn’t catch on nearly as well as ASUS probably would have liked.
Now, a company by the name of ExoTablet has came out with their very own Padfone competitor dubbed the TransPhone. While not as good looking or performing as the Padfone, the goal is to offer this unique combination at a more affordable price. The thing is though, will consumers bite? Let’s jump into the specs…
- 3.5 inch TFT LCD 800 x 480 display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 single-core processor
- 512MB RAM
- 512MB internal storage with included 32GB microSD card
- 5 megapixel rear-facing camera
- 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera
- Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi b/g/n, GPS
- 1,450 mAh battery
- Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread
As for the tablet portion, you’re looking at a 7 inch screen which also features a 2,800 mAh battery to keep both devices powered. And just how much is everything? The TransPhone plus tablet combo will run you $429.99 and separately the Transphone will cost $379 while the tablet portion will cost $140. We’re talking 2009 hardware here and even at that price point it just seems they’re going to have an awfully hard time moving product off the shelf at that price.
Heck, you could grab a used EVO 4G with better specs plus a Nexus 7 for around the same price, if not less.
