Digital book vendor Kobo has revealed its successor to the the Kobo Vox tablet dubbed as Kobo Arc. The Kobo Arc comes with significant upgrades over the Vox with a Dual core TI OMAP processor and a 7″ 1280 x 800p IPS display. The Arc will also be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich while the Vox had the flavor of Gingerbread. Other capabilities include softwares for reading, watching movies and videos, listening to music, surfing the web and playing games.
This announcement by Kobo has been made just hours before the expected unveiling of next generation of Kindle devices by Amazon. It is pretty tough to compete against Amazon’s Kindle line-up when it comes to Ereaders and budget tablet but Kobo Arc has an edge over Amazon with it’s capability to support Google Play Store.
The Kobo Arc is claimed to understand the preferences of the user. It will provide you with relevant videos, movies, books, etc according to your taste and preferences. Kobo thinks that it will be somewhat similar to Google Now. (Delusional?)
It means that you can enjoy the hundreds of thousands of apps offered by official Google Play store for your Kobo Arc while the Kindle tablets can only utilize Amazon’s Appstore for Android. The tablet also features a 2mp front facing camera, 1GB of RAM. The price for 8GB and 16GB models are $200 and $250 respectively. Although, at this point we see no point in buying the Arc over the mighty Nexus 7. If you are already a Kobo Vox owner and have already purchased a lot of content from Kobo’s marketplace then this is a great upgrade for you in a budget or you can also install the Kobo app on any Android tablet of your choice. (cough*Nexus 7*cough)
