Electronic Times in Korea have reported that Samsung is working on its own WebKit browser for smartphones that will be exclusive to its Galaxy line of devices. The company has put out ads seeking WebKit developers to work in its research and development department located in Silicon Valley. The new Galaxy browser will be a direct competitor to Apple’s Safari (that sucks btw) and Google Chrome, that’s available on both Android and iOS.
Most people tend to use the default browser on their Android devices. While some change to let’s say Chrome or maybe Opera but the majority still enjoys the default browser that comes pre-installed on their devices. So, this is an opportunity for Samsung to differentiate their Galaxy Line-up from rival Android manufacturers and even further compete with Apple.
Right now, Chrome is the best browser on Desktop and provides the best syncing capabilities across all the platforms. You can sync your passwords, bookmarks, browsing history across several platforms including Android and iOS. So, it would be a daunting task for Samsung to come up with something that is better than or at least of the same calibre as Google Chrome.
There are no official words by Samsung on the development of a homebred browser yet but the company is definitely looking for people who have working experience with WebKit, so a possible release is expected soon maybe with the next Galaxy Device. We are not sure if Samsung will also launch the browser on Google Play and iTunes to give users of other devices an option to choose any browser they prefer.
