The end of the year is getting closer and closer and with that comes new phone and tablet announcement, as well as the typical rumor. One rumor that’s caught our eye here at Android Headlines is that Google and ASUS will be coming out with a lower-end Nexus 7 priced at the oh so awesome price point of $99. Yes, under 100 bones. The reasoning for this is quite simple.
Amazon recently announced their new line of Kindle Fire HD tablets and with that we saw the previous generation Kindle Fire drop down to $159. Even though the Nexus 7 is a far more superior tablet in many ways, there’s likely plenty of consumers who will see the Kindle Fire as more than enough and opt with that instead. To shake things up a bit, Google and ASUS could come in with a similarly powered tablet, but with the stock Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience and not Amazon’s forked version of Android.
At $99, the tablet would easily fly off the shelves and allow both companies to end the year on an especially high note. With how great that sounds though, ASUS has already denied the claims that such a tablet exists or will come out. Whether we believe ASUS or Digitimes who broke the rumor is anyone’s guess. It is interesting though how quickly they denounced the rumor.
Also, one has to take into consideration if a Nexus 7 tablet at $99 would even be worth it. At such a low price, it would be quite difficult to pack a decent dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, good display, and so on. However, who knows and maybe Google and ASUS actually have something up their sleeve. Just maybe.
