Sprint Not Planning On Buying Clearwire After Softbank Deal
This week, Softbank acquired a 70% stake in Sprint for $20 Billion. While this will give the third largest carrier a bit more cash to further improve their infrastructure, there was talk that they were going to purchase Clearwire. Looks like it isn’t going to happen. The company offers wireless broadband services and was the brains behind Sprint’s WiMax which turned out to be the wrong move.
MetroPCS Shareholders Not Happy With Acquisition, Attempt To Block With Lawsuit
Deutsche Telecom, the German parent of T-Mobile, has acquired MetroPCS for $1.5 Billion. Well, they’re trying to at least, but it appears shareholders are not happy about it. We covered the story and they make a good point about it being undervalued. Shareholders are making their case and in the meantime, the acquisition is delayed.
Will Softbank Deal Help Lower Sprint’s Prices?
Compared to the shared data plans of competitors, Sprint’s pricing isn’t too bad, but now that Softbank owns the majority of the carrier, is there a chance that prices will get lower? MarketWatch wrote up a piece talking about just that. When Softbank took over Vodafone in Japan, they lowered prices and others followed suit. Maybe that same strategy will be applied with Sprint.
AT&T Can Expand, Sirius Airwaves Won’t Be Affected In FCC Agreement
When it comes to wireless communications, there’s always the chance of interference. In a new agreement with the FCC, AT&T can continue to expand their wireless data services and also protects Sirius satellite radio subscribers from being affected by interference.
Mobilicity Cranks It Up A Notch With 21Mbps Network Upgrade
Mobilicity who’s services are available in parts of Canada, announced that a faster network will go live the last week of October. With speeds of up to 21Mbps, customers will be able to experience LTE speeds. This happens to coincide with their release of the Galaxy Note II.
Solavei Gives Free Month Of Service To New Customers Through The End Of October
Solavei, while isn’t very well known, operates on T-Mobile’s network and through October 31st, are offering a free month to new customers. Not only that, but if you can refer up to 3 others, they’ll throw in the second month free. For unlimited talk, text, and 4G data, it’ll typically run you $49 per month.
